After losing seven of out their last nine games, the BC High boys hockey responded in a big way Saturday in the opening round of the Buddy Ferreira Classic against Duxbury.
Ryan Flaherty delivered a monster performance by tallying five points off of one goal and four assists as the Eagles (6-11-1) went on to rout the Dragons (10-8-2), 7-1.
Matt Cox followed Flaherty’s lead with one goal and three assists while Aidan McDonnell aided in the offensive effort with two goals and one assist. BC High advances to the semifinal round of the tournament to face Austin Prep on Monday (7 p.m.).

BOYS HOCKEY
Hingham 3, Arlington Catholic 1: In the opening round of the Buddy Ferreira Classic, the Harbormen (16-3-1) received goals from Andrew Concannon, Aidan Brazel and Conor Walsh to advance to Monday’s semifinal against Reading.
Canton 5, Needham 0: The Bulldogs (17-2-1) scored three goals in a two-minute span in the second period to pull away with the win. Canton’s offense was powered by five different goal-scorers.
Reading 5, Archbishop Williams 0: The Rockets blanked the Bishops (10-8-1) in the opening round of the Buddy Ferreira Classic.
Stoughton/Brockton 4, Foxboro 2: The Knights improved to 9-9-1 with the win.
Marshfield 4, Bridgewater-Raynham 3 (OT): Tommy Carroll notched the game-winning goal for the Rams (14-5-2) in the extra frame.
Cohasset/Hull 8, Tri-County 2: Luke Dunham registered two goals and two assists to power the Skippers (9-8-1). Shane Mulcahy also had two goals and a helper while Luke Mullen recorded a tally and two assists.
Plymouth South 2, Scituate 1: The Panthers (6-12) upset the Sailors (13-7) to earn the Patriot League win. James Sullivan scored the lone goal for Scituate.
Whitman-Hanson 6, Southeastern/Bristol-Plymouth 0: Erik Dean recorded his third shutout in four games while John Ward tallied a hat trick.
Lynnfield 4, Plymouth North 2: Kevin Norwood scored both goals in the loss for the Eagles (10-8-1).
Abington 4, South Shore Tech 0: Spencer Merrick made 24 stops in a shutout effort for the Green Wave. Jake Quinn (2 goals) and Ryan Tobin (goal, assist) led the offense.
Brookline 1, North Quincy 0: The Raiders (3-16) fell in a nonleague matchup.
West Bridgewater/East Bridgewater 3, Greater Lowell 1: The Vikings pulled off the win to improve to 9-7-3.
Quincy 7, Oliver Ames 0: Gerry Caldwell tallied two goals while Tyler Holmes had the shutout for the Presidents.
GIRLS HOCKEY
Hanover 5, Stoughton 0: The Hawks (7-7-2) took down the Knights in nonleague action.
Natick 3, Braintree 2 (OT): The Wamps dropped the Bay State Conference game.
Plymouth North/Plymouth South 6, Scituate 3: Keira Modder had a goal and two assists in the loss.
Notre Dame Academy 2, Acton-Boxboro 1: The Cougars (8-5-1) received two power-play goals from Lucy DelGallo and Juliana Conors while Lily Prendergast had a strong showing in net.
Austin Prep 3, Duxbury 2 (OT): The Dragons (15-2-2) almost knocked the Cougars from the ranks of the unbeaten but Austin Prep netted the game-winning goal with three seconds left in the extra frame. Lily Sparrow and Ayla Abban provided the goals for Duxbury.
St. Joseph’s 4 West/East Bridgewater 1: Jamie Noonan scored the only goal in the loss for the Vikings (5-11-1).
Pembroke 5, Cape Cod 2: Behind two goals each from Mary Quatrale and Jennifer Birolini, the Titans (12-5) picked up a key road win.
Weymouth 5, Quincy/North Quincy 2: The Wildcats came away with the nonleague win.
Sandwich 3, Marshfield 2 (OT): Kayla Leonard and Hannah Cochran both scored in the loss for the Rams (4-12). Anna Sullivan provided strong defensive play as well.
Archbishop Williams 4, Malden Catholic 0: Evelyn Lacey earned the shutout for the Bishops (12-5-3) while Karaline O’Toole, Rory Shields, Shea Nolan and Grace Mottau each had a goal a piece.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Marshfield 62, Barnstable 49: All 14 players scored for the Rams as they improved to 12-6 overall with the nonleague win.
Catholic Memorial 84, Scituate 76: The Sailors (14-5) dropped the nonleague contest, but received stellar play from senior guard Keegan Sullivan, who poured in 20 of his 29 points in the second quarter and also had nine assists.
South Shore Tech 55, South Shore Christian 26: Matt Chiasson of Hanover posted a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds to guide the Vikings (8-10). Billy Lally (Hanover) and Jared Madden (Rockland) both had eight points in the win.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Newton North 52, Bridgewater-Raynham 50: The Trojans suffered a narrow defeat to the Tigers in the IAABO Board 27 Tournament.
East Bridgewater 51, Martha’s Vineyard 27: Haley Murphy (8 points) and Phoebe Katilus (7 points, 16 rebounds) led the way for the Vikings (18-2).
Norwood 56, Norwell 41: Sara Cashin scored a team-high 16 points for the Clippers in a loss at the IAABO Board 27 Tournament.
South Shore Tech 49, South Shore Christian Academy 15: In their regular season finale, the Vikings (16-4) received a game-high 19 points from Ellery Campbell while Zoey Bradshaw chipped in with 11 points.
BOYS TRACK & FIELD
Brockton finishes sixth: Led by state-champion Jason Wonodi, who won the 55 meter dash title in 6.45 seconds, the Boxers were the highest-scoring local at the MIAA Div. 1 track meet with 27 points, which tied them for sixth. Weymouth finished eighth, BC High was 11th and Quincy/North Quincy was 18th.
The Boxers also finished third in the 4x200m relay (Wonodi, Jamar Goss, Alan Jordonne, Anthony Canuto).
Weymouth’s Brandon Riley was the long jump champion (21 feet, 9 inches). BC Evee (BC High) placed third while Christensen Paul (Brockton) was fifth. Riley’s teammate, David Manfredi, won the mile championships.
Quincy/North Quincy’s Hatim Bouktham placed second in the 600m in (1:23.87).
GIRLS TRACK & FIELD
Div. 1 Track: Weymouth was the highest-scoring local, finished tied for 12th.
Other local teams included Braintree (17th), Quincy/North Quincy (18th) and Brockton (23rd).
Weymouth’s Emma Daley, Emma Doran, Alison Glavin and Gracie Richard combined to finish second in the 4x800m relay. Richard (1,000m) and Shea Roche (2 mile) each had fifth-place finishes.
Quincy/North Quincy’s Salma Boukhtam was fourth in the 600m. Braintree’s Bridget Lee was third in the long jump.
