Sophomore Mary Kate Flynn delivered a two-run single as the visiting Hanover High softball team scored three times in the top of the seventh inning on Friday to bust open a tie game and beat Marshfield, 6-5.
Sophomore winning pitcher Abby Smith allowed one earned run and had two hits for Hanover (4-1, 3-0 Patriot League).
Freshman catcher Abby Hanna also had two hits for the Hawks.
The game was tied at 3-3 before Hanover erupted in the top of the seventh. Marshfield answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame but came up just short.

SOFTBALL
Oliver Ames 4, Stoughton 3: The Tigers won in walk-off fashion as Caitlin Miller (2 for 3, double, 2 RBI, run) plated Devon Morris (2 for 3, triple) with a one-out sacrifice fly to cap a 2-run rally. Katie Melendy (2 for 3) led off the seventh with a double, moved to third and scored the tying run on a close play at the plate on a Katherine Farley squeeze bunt. Melendy got the complete-game win in the circle, striking out 6. Paige Taylor also drove in a run for OA.
Abington 3, Walpole 2: The Green Wave (6-1) escaped a bases-loaded jam in the top of the seventh inning to post the non-league win. Calli Pineau hit a 2-run home run, and Gaby Hockney (2 for 3, run) drove in Brenna Howley (1 for 3, double) with the go-ahead RBI. Shannon Varvitsiotis allowed 1 earned run and struck out 5 in the victory.
BASEBALL
Hull 7, Lowell Catholic 6: Dylan Cavicchio was 3 for 4 with a 2-run walk-off double as the Pirates scored 4 runs in the bottom of the seventh for the win. Matt Mahoney (single) and Owen Fleck (bases-loaded walk) drove in the other runs in the seventh. Luke Dunham got a no-decision, allowing 3 earned runs over 5 2/3 innings with 5 strikeouts. Nick Tiani earned the win in relief, working 1 1/3 innings with 2 strikeouts. Hull trailed 4-0 before scoring three times in the fifth.
“The kids needed this,” Hull coach Mike O’Donnell said. “They have been working hard each day and finally got the results they deserved.”
Archbishop Williams 5, Boston Latin School 4: Sophomore Josh Turcotte’s seventh-inning sacrifice fly plated the winning run for the visiting Bishops (4-4). Luke Driscoll (Whitman) was 2 for 3 with a home run, 2 RBI and 2 runs. Bryan Cahill, Shawn Harrington and Stephen Ondrick, all from Weymouth, each had 2 hits. Joe Schwartz (Braintree) earned the win, working 3 1/3 innings. Matt Kowalski (Weymouth) got the 1-inning save, striking out 2.
Hanover 5, Sandwich 0: Sophomore Gabe Knudsen threw a complete-game 1-hitter with 11 strikeouts and went 2 for 4 with a 2-run home run as the Hawks (3-1) won the inaugural J.L. Murphy Tournament in Scituate.
Brockton 6, Barnstable 5: The Boxers won it in the seventh inning with Nick Genatossio sparking the offense. Brockton got a strong start from Jackson O’Brien, and Brady Ensko nailed it down in relief.
Wellesley 6, Plymouth South 5: Nate Ruehs was 2 for 3 with a double in the walk-off road loss for South (4-2). Tommy Sullivan and Matt Cassidy each drove in a run, and Nathan Ferry and Cam Tetler pitched well. Wellesley’s Gabe Albertson hit a solo home run to tie the game in the 7th, and teammate Sachin Gopal won it with a double.
Falmouth 3, Scituate 2: Ben Whitman was 3 for 3 with a walk, a double, a triple and 2 runs scored for the Sailors (4-2) in the non-league loss. Jordan Barthel doubled and walked.
North Attleboro 3, Canton 2: Jack Digirolamo had an RBI double, and both Owen Lane (3 innings, 1 earned runs, 5 strikeouts) and Andy Butler (3 innings, 1 earned run, 3 strikeouts) pitched well for the Bulldogs in the loss.
Oliver Ames 8, Stoughton 3: Jake Waxman had a 3-run double in the seventh inning as OA (6-1) rallied for the Hockomock League road win. Jack Richardson threw 5 innings and struck out 5. He was also 3 for 4 at the plate with an RBI. Ben Whiteside and Jojo Gaultier each threw a scoreless inning in relief, and Jack Muir had 2 hits and a run scored.
Duxbury 12, East Bridgewater 11: EB stormed back from an 11-0 deficit to tie the game, but the Green Dragons scratched out a final run to get the non-league win.
Norwell 4, Cohasset 0: The Clippers improved to 2-2.
BC High 7, Newton North 2: Ronan and Gavin Donahue led the Eagles (6-2) to a non-league home win.
GIRLS LACROSSE
Archbishop Williams 16, St. Mary’s (Lynn) 5: Karaline O’Toole (Quincy) had 8 goals and 4 assists to power the Bishops (5-1). Clare O’Keefe (Whitman) added 3 goals and 2 assists, and Caroline Batchelder (Braintree) and Abigail Dunn (Quincy) also scored.
Pembroke 12, Silver Lake 9: On Day 2 of the Patriot Cup, Meg Holmes scored 4 goals to lead the Titans over the Lakers.
Sandwich 10, Hanover 6: The Hawks lost in the final of the Patriot Cup.
Bridgewater-Raynham 14, East Bridgewater 3: The Trojans topped the Vikings in non-league action.
BOYS LACROSSE
Whitman-Hanson 9, Hull 2: Bobby Hunter, Joey Walker and Chris Currier anchored the defense in front of goaltender David MacNeil (9 saves) to lead the Panthers (2-5) to a non-league road win. Owen Wolford (2 goals, assist) and Connor McCarthy (2 goals)led a balanced offensive attack. Jeff Gomes won 11 of 12 faceoffs, and Matt Solari and Will Frazier (7 ground balls) also starred.
