In his seventh consistory of his pontificate, Pope Francis created 13 new cardinals coming from Africa, Asia, Europe and the Americas, at the Vatican on Saturday. Among them is Cardinal Wilton Gregory, Archbishop of Washington, who became the first African American cardinal in the Church’s history. Due to coronavirus restrictions, each of the new cardinals were only allowed five guests, and the two new cardinals from Asia were unable to travel and followed along online. After the consistory, Pope Francis and the cardinals went to greet Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, who blessed each of them. Rome Correspondent, Colm Flynn reports.
