Phyllis Mary Meulebroeck was born March 20, 1948, to Omer and Mary (Tholen) Meulebroeck in Marshall. She was baptized at the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Marshall. Phyllis grew up primarily in the Clara City area and attended Catholic School. It was at St. Clara’s Catholic Church that she had her first communion and was confirmed into the Catholic Faith. The family then made their way to Murdock where Phyllis attended high school and graduated with the class of 1968. Soon after, Phyllis ventured to Minnetonka and began working at the Tonka Toy Company.
On Aug. 2, 1975, Phyllis was united in marriage to Dale Johnson. The couple settled in the Cities for a number of years before making their home in Nisswa. The beauty of the surrounding lakes was what originally drew the couple to the area, and you could find them spending their leisure time watching the loons. Phyllis also found enjoyment in hospitality and took pride in the homes and hotels she cleaned for many years. After the passing of her husband, Phyllis returned to her hometown of Marshall, where she resided for the past 12 years.
Phyllis was a faithful servant of the Catholic Church. She attended mass weekly and was a proud member of the Counsel of Catholic Women. In Phyllis’ free time, you could find her reading, doing crossword puzzles, conversing with her friends over a cup of coffee, or playing Bingo, Pinochle, Buck Euchre, and any other type of card game. She was an avid lover of ALL dogs and even had a collection of figurines dedicated to them. Phyllis never missed a Minnesota Vikings or Twins game and loved to cheer on her teams. Most importantly, Phyllis will always be remembered for her “Belgian Temper,” she was quite stubborn!
She is survived by her siblings, Cathy “Kate” Quinn of Burnsville, Bob Meulebroeck of Springville, AZ, Jerry (and Linda) Meulebroeck of Glenwood; sister-in-law, Nita Meulebroeck of Long Prairie; 11 nieces and nephews, Zachary Quinn, Sean Quinn, Casey Quinn, Jake Meulebroeck, Mark Meulebroeck, David Meulebroeck, Mike Wilke, Tina Erickson, Dana Schone, Jason Meulebroeck, Alicia Gullickson; other relatives, and many friends.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, Omer and Mary Meulebroeck; husband, Dale Johnson; brothers, Don Meulebroeck and Ken Meulebroeck.
