The Bishop of the Diocese of Kinkiizi, Rt Rev Dan Zoreka has called upon Christians in the Diocese to embrace farming for food security and income generation to sustain their households.
Bishop Zoreka rebuked lazy household heads and the youth who have rejected farming for alcoholism, immorality and idleness.
“We must use our two hands to hold hoes and to cultivate the fertile land to get food to sustain our families. I encourage parents to entice the youth and younger children to embrace farming. I am a farmer myself and I strongly condemn laziness especially in men and youth,” the Bishop said.
The Bishop made the remarks while presiding over a confirmation service for 53 confirmants at St. Andrew’s Kancerere Church of Uganda, Kanyantorogo Archdeaconry in the Diocese of Kinkiizi.
Earlier, the Bishop dedicated the Parish Priest’s house and toured a number of development projects before the Service.
He commended the Parish Priest, Rev. Daniel Buregyeya for developing Kancerere into a model Parish in the Diocese.
“Kancerere Church of Uganda is now a model Parish in the Diocese of Kinkiizi where I keep referring many other Churches to benchmark on sustainability. I am impressed by the projects on ground including schools, coffee plantations, ministers’ houses and so much more,” Bishop Zoreka said.
In his Sermon derived from 2 Thessalonians 3:12, Canon Ben Kurigamba, the Diocesan Head of Laity, implored christians to work hard and improve their wellbeing and transform the communities they live in.
Church of Uganda’s Communications Officer, Mr. Sadiiki Adams, lauded Bishop Dan Zoreka for his visionary leadership and stewardship which has made the Diocese one of the fastest growing Dioceses in the Province.
“I have had the opportunity of visiting several Dioceses and there is a great taste of leadership Bishop Dan Zoreka has delivered to Kinkiizi. His focus on self sustainability of the Diocese, mission focus and household and community transformation makes him a great leader of our time,” Sadiiki said.
He further commended him for being vocal and always addressing matters affecting the ordinary people.
“Bishop Dan Zoreka is very articulate while making submissions on different forums and his focus on matters that affect the ordinary Christian makes him standout always. That’s why he was recently elected to represent Bishops on the Provincial Assembly Standing Committee (PASC), the topmost policy making organ of Church of Uganda,” Sadiiki said.
