Bishop’s Stortford’s Hollyoaks soap star Billy Price shared his journey to the National Television Awards ceremony with fans.
The 21-year-old former Northgate primary and Bishop’s Stortford High School student posted a video on Twitter, showing his train trip from “sunny” Liverpool, where he is part of the Channel 4 teatime soap’s cast, to a rain-sodden London.
After booking into a plush hotel, Billy swapped his tracksuit for a black tuxedo and headed for the O2 London arena last Thursday (Sept 9) for the televised ceremony hosted by Joel Dommett.
He filmed from the red carpet and shared his excitement with fans as he joined a galaxy of television stars for the show.
He was in the final four short-listed for Best Serial Drama Performance for his powerful portrayal of troubled Sid Sumner.
He was up against Danny Dyer (Mick Carter) from BBC One’s EastEnders and ITV’s Coronation Street duo Sally Carman and Mollie Gallagher, who play Abi Franklin and Nina Lucas respectively. After a second public vote, Mollie took the title.
Billy made it clear he was thrilled to have made it to the final quartet and is already looking to the future.
He has previously expressed his gratitude to Indie readers for supporting him and said on Twitter after the ceremony: “Thank you, everyone, for taking the time to vote. I don’t take anything for granted and last night was a childhood dream for me. We will get them one day.”
Billy joined Hollyoaks in 2019 and has starred in more than 100 episodes, winning praise for his performance in hard-hitting storylines exploring racism, right-wing radicalisation and county lines drug-dealing, culminating in his apparent death and then a devastating accident that led to partial amputation of a leg.
