All Covid-19 vaccinations in Bishop’s Stortford will now take place at the town’s football club after the jab centre at Avanti Meadows Primary School closed on Monday (June 14).
The Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust team that performed 55,000 injections at the school site is transferring to Bishop’s Stortford FC’s ground at Woodside, off Dunmow Road, and will resume inoculations on Thursday (June 17).
They replace the medical squad of Stort Valley and Villages Primary Care Network (PCN) GPs and nurses who administered over 33,500 vaccinations at the football club.
Meanwhile, Avanti Meadows, at St Michael’s Hurst, will now get ready to open as the Bishop’s Stortford North estates’ first primary in September.
A spokesman for Herts Community NHS Trust had advice for patients who received their first dose at Avanti Meadows: “Second doses booked will be given at the football club and any patients will receive a text with change of location. All future vaccinations will take place at the football club.
“Regarding how much longer the site will operate, we are reviewing all our sites with our partners across the region but will give plenty of notice for any future changes.”
The football club clinic was set up at the start of the year by Stort Valley and Villages PCN, which represents Church Street, South Street and Parsonage surgeries in Stortford, Sawbridgeworth’s Bell Street practice and Much Hadham Health Centre.
In all, 100 health workers and a team of 25 volunteers – including Tracey Matthews, who co-ordinated the vital parking marshals – ensured the smooth roll-out of jabs.
Dr Sian Stanley, a Church Street partner and clinical director of the PCN, said: “The GP and nursing team from the Stort Valley and Villages PCN saved many lives, which allowed society to open up once again – this is an outstanding achievement.”
