Rev. Magezi the Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese will be laid to rest on Friday at St. Emmanuel Cathedral Kinyasano in Rukungiri district.
Bishop Magezi succumbed to Covid-19 on Tuesday at Mulago Hospital in Kampala where he has been admitted for two weeks after he tested positive.
Rev Can Enock Karamuzi, the Diocesan Secretary announced that tomorrow Thursday there will be a funeral service at All Saints Cathedral Kampala at 10am where the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda His Grace Dr Stephen Kazimba will be the preacher.
Burial will be on Friday at St. Emmanuel Cathedral Kinyasano.
Rev. Patrick Tugume Tusingwire the Emeritus Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese has asked the Christians to keep off from St Emmanuel Cathedral Kinyasano, the Bishop’s office and residence as they mourn.
“Entire country is indeed living in hard times and the only solution is to be extra careful and follow the Standard Operating Procedures that were put in place by the government to stop the spread of Coronavirus pandemic,” he said.
Bishop Benon Magezi was born in 1960 in Kanyondo village, in Buhunga Sub County, Rukungiri District to William and Norah Kajunguri.
Bishop Magezi attended his primary Education at Kashenyi Primary School from 1967-1975 and Between 1976-1979, he attended O’ level at Jinja College, after which he taught at Rwabukoba, Nyakanyinya and Kashenyi Primary Schools respectively.
In 1982 he left teaching and began full-time ministry as a parish youth worker a post he held for one year.
In 1983, he was appointed the Parish treasurer until 1985 when he went to Bible Collage to train as a lay reader.
In 1989-1990, he joined Bishop Barham theological College in Kabale on an ordination course where he came out with a certificate in Theology. He was ordained a deacon in 1990 and posted to Kakibaya Parish where he served up to 1995.
In 2004, Magezi was transferred to Kyatoko COU where he served for two years before he was transferred to Rumbugu Parish that he also served for two years.
From there, he went to Uganda Christian University from 2008-2010 and attained a Bachelor’s degree in Theology. From the University, he was posted to the treasury office until August 23rd 2016 when he was elected the next Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese.
Bishop Magezi is survived by a wife, Gladys Magezi whom they have been married for close to 31 years now. God blessed them with five children.
