GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — From June 18th to June 25th more than 350 pieces of art will go on sale at The Art Center of Western Colorado.
The collection was donated to The Art Center following the death of former Senator Tillie Bishop and his wife Pat. “We accepted about 50 of these pieces into our permanent collection,” said executive director Lee Bordan, “then opening tomorrow, Saturday the 18th we are selling the rest of the art to benefit The Art Center.”
The profits from the sales will help pay for:
- the permanent collection archives
- bills
- general running costs
- community art classes
- ceramics studios
The entire collection on sale is more than 350 pieces of art. The items range from rugs to paintings, to statues. Some artwork in the collection comes from well-known artists such as John Fielder, Jac Kephart, Frank Mechu, Frederic Remington, and Mark Rohrig. Another small collection that catches the eye is a group of elephant statues. The Bishops have the statues because Tillie Bishop was republican. Each elephant is sold separately.
“Really anything that you could think of the Bishop collected it, and we have artwork literally from five dollars to five thousand dollars,” said Borden
The Art Center of Western Colorado will be open from 9 A.M. to 4 P.M.
