ZANESVILLE — The Zanesville boys tennis team invited Logan and Athens for a home triangular on Saturday.
The Blue Devils defeated the Chieftains 5-0 but lost 3-2 to the Bulldogs to move to 6-4 on the year. They are slated to travel to Watkins Memorial on Monday.
Against Logan, No. 1 singles Jeremiah Penrose won over Levi Keck 6-1, 6-1; No. 2 singles Lucas Watson defeated Owen Gadrim 6-0, 6-0, and No. 3 Tyson Omen downed Timmy Baron 6-3, 6-0.
The first doubles of Evan Dinan and Samuel Lightle defeated Ashley Aldridge and Mira Burns 6-0, 6-1 and second doubles of Joshua Lightle and Sky Cooke won 6-0, 6-1 over Logan Keck and Xavier Lawson.
Against Athens, Penrose downed Ben Castenino 6-4, 6-3 and Dinan and Samuel Lightle defeated Jake McCartney and Jay Choi 6-4, 6-3.
Athens’ Luke Frost beat Lucas Watson 6-2, 6-3, Charlie Kuan won 6-1, 6-1 against Tyson Omen, and second doubles of Nico Barr and Jackson Owen beat Sky Cooke and Joshua Lightle 6-1, 6-0.
Baseball
Sheridan 4, 8, Licking Heights 2, 6: The Generals had a pair of comeback wins to move to 11-2 after a sweep of the Hornets.
In Game 1, Sheridan trailed 2-1 entering the bottom of the fourth before scoring single tallies in each of the final three innings. Jarrett Thorne had an RBI single in the fifth to score the go-ahead run, and Coyle Withrow picked up win in relief of starter Jake Paxton. Withrow allowed no runs and two hits with three strikeouts and one walk in four innings.
Corey Amspaugh collected three hits, Caden Sheridan and Jarrett Thorne added two hits apiece, including a solo home run for Sheridan in the third. Amspaugh and Withrow had RBI singles in the four-run sixth to send the Generals up after trailing 5-4.
Sheridan picked up win, going final 1 2/3 innings with two strikeouts, while Josh Eden pitched three-plus scoreless innings of relief.
New Lexington 5, Meadowbrook 1: Isaac McGill struck out nine in a complete game to fuel the Panthers (7-4, 5-4 MVL-Small) in an MVL-Small School game in Byesville.
Tatem Toth slugged an RBI double in the two-run fifth inning that extended a one-run Panther lead to 4-1. Garrett Blosser singled and scored on an error in the frame.
McHill allowed six hits and walked two. His only run yielded was unearned. His counterpart, Damen Launder, struck out six and allowed one earned run in 5 2/3 innings.
Josh Hupp tallied three singles for the Colts (6-4, 4-3), who committed four errors.
Hunter Kellogg had an RBI single and Toth a run-scoring groundout in the inning.
Rosecrans 12, Beallsville 3: Xander Daniels struck out 12 in a complete game and was a force at the plate as the Bishops (7-1) rolled to a nonleague win on the road.
Daniels’ three doubles accounted for all of the Bishops’ extra-base hits. His double in the fourth, with two outs and the bases loaded, pushed a three-run lead to 8-2 and officially blew the game open.
Daniels finished with three doubles and five RBIs, while Brenden Bernath and Tommy Bernath had two singles. Tommy drove in a pair of runs and also had a sacrifice fly.
The Bishops visit Berne Union at 5:15 p.m. on Monday for a Mid-State League-Cardinal Division showdown at Beavers Field in Lancaster. The Rockets handed Rosecrans its only loss, 17-2, on April 7.
Zanesville 17, Claymont 7 (6 inn.): Trey Whiteman went 3-for-5 with a triple, double, five RBIs and three runs scored in a six-inning win for the Blue Devils.
Slade Young and Clayton Tredway had RBI singles before Whiteman tripled to bring home two in a five-run third that put Zanesville up 7-4.
Caleb Underwood added two singles, two RBIs and three runs scored and Tredway and Young chipped in two hits apiece for the winners. Brier Harmon earned the win in relief, allowing three runs on four hits with three strikeouts and three walks in four innings.
Zanesville 11, Maysville 1 (5 inn.): Preston Moorehead held the Panthers to five hits and struck out five, as the Blue Devils moved to 4-9 by winning both games on Saturday.
Another five-run third provided the difference for the Blue Devils. Canon Mercer doubled home a pair of runs and Whiteman and Kaden Mayle also knocked in runs in that frame.
Whiteman also had a double among his three hits and knocked in four runs and Avery Mohler scored three times for the Blue Devils.
Cole Roberts had a pair of singles for the Panther offense, while Kamyn Walker took the loss after giving up six runs on four hits in three innings. He fanned three and walked two.
Heath 10, 9, John Glenn 5, 12: The Muskies (9-3) fell behind early in a Game 1 loss, but Aaron Johnson’s two-run singles with two outs in the fifth put them ahead for good in a Game 2 win over the Bulldogs.
Blade Barclay hit a homer and a double and knocked in three runs in the opener, as John Glenn had only six hits and committed four errors. Noah Winland gave up eight runs in 3 1/3 innings to suffer the loss. He had three walks and two strikeouts.
Colin Campbell blasted a three-run homer in the first and finished with four RBIs, and Colt Emerson led the 16-hit attack by going 4-for-5 with a double, triple and three runs scored in Game 2.
Avery Parmer, Noah Wellemeier and Aydan Thompson also had two hits apiece, while Thompson pitched two scoreless innings of relief with two strikeouts to earn the win.
Tri-Valley 6, 18, Lakewood 2, 4: Kyler Spinks was great again on the mound, pitching a complete game with an earned run to win the opener, while the Scotties plated 14 runs in the first of the second game to complete the sweep.
Bennett Baker, Jake Kinder and Jalen Goins-Chandler had two hits each in the first game, and Luke Lyall also had a big two-out, two-run double.
Baker also had four singles with four RBIs in the nightcap, as the Scotties piled up 18 hits and took advantage of four Lancer errors. Ty Smith drove in three runs with a double and single and Luke Lyall had two singles and two RBIs.

East Knox 14, West Muskingum 4: The Tornadoes (3-8) jumped ahead 4-0 in the first inning but were dominated the rest of the way in a nonleague loss in Howard.
Landon Spearman cracked two doubles and a single with four RBIs and James Hurlow and Derrick Field had three RBIs for the Bulldogs.
Hunter Porter drove in two runs with triple and two singles to account for half of the Tornadoes’ hits. Five pitchers combined to allow 10 hits and 13 earned runs.
Ryan Morton struck out eight and allowed three hits and no runs in 4 1/3 innings of relief to get the win.
Philo 8, Meigs 5: Owen Smith fired five innings of one-hit, shutout relief for the Electrics (9-4), who scored four times in the fourth inning to take the lead for good in a nonleague game against the visiting Marauders.
Meigs scored four times in the top of the first inning to take the early lead, but the Electrics responded with four runs in the bottom of the inning to tie it. Meigs scored in the second to regain the lead, but Eli Preston sent two runs home with a double in the fourth to give Philo a 6-5 lead it wouldn’t relinquish.
Jacob Howell also doubled for Philo, which had seven hits and benefitted from five Meigs errors.
Philo hosts Tri-Valley at 5 p.m. on Monday in MVL-Big School Division play.

Sheridan girls win at Bloom-Carroll: The Generals’ strong showings in invitationals continued on Saturday at the Bloom-Carroll Invitational.
The girls totaled 134 points to run away with the title, finishing well ahead of runner-up Gahanna Columbus Academy (89) and third-place Bloom-Carroll (58 1/2). They were the only area team in the 15-team field.
Katelyn Heath was second in the 400 (1:01.9), second in the long jump (16-4) and third in the 200 (:27.76), while she also ran on the winning 800 relay with Adrienne Spicer, Julie Nichols and Claire Shriner that clocked at 1:49.2.
Shriner also claimed the 300 hurdles (:47.67) and was second in the 100 hurdles (:17.18), trailing only champion Juliette Laracuente, of Sparta Highland, who cruised to a :15.25. Laracuente was Division II high jump champion in 2021.
Spicer was second in the 200 (:27.69), fourth in the 100 (:13.39) and was on the 4×100 relay with Nichols, Ally Perkins and Kira Howe that was second (:52.60). Bloom-Carroll won in :52.59. Jenna Stewart was second in the 3200 (13:00.5).
Faith Covey, Olivia Shonk, Kendal Drury and Jenna Stewart were second in the 3200 relay (11:05.0); Miranda Ellars, Shonk, Addi Shaeffer and Covey were third in the 1600 relay (4:31.3). Grace Householder was fourth in the 1600 (6:04.5).
In the boys meet, Sheridan was eighth of 15 teams with 38 points. Bloom-Carroll won with 106 1/2 and Highland was second (98).
John Skinner was second in the 3200 (10:50.1), Tate Ruthers third in the 1600 (4:51.9) and Luke Snider fourth in the pole vault (9-6) for the Generals.
Tri-Valley boys, girls fifth at New Philadelphia: The Scottie girls tallied 61 points and the boys had 53.75 points in the 8-team Gundy Invitational.
Lizzie Mjohlus, Peyton Mills, Lauren Cox and Taylor Crozier won the 4×800 (11:09), Naomi Wachter Francis, Cox, Mjohlus and Crozier were third in the 4×400 (4:46), Mjohlus took third in the 400 (1:07.38), Crozier placed third in the 3,200 (13:10) and Glisten Stanford came in third in the pole vault (8-0) to highlight the girls’ effort.
Beau Priest won the discus (128-1) and came in second in the shot (46-1), Thomas Williams, Drake Durst, Caden France and Slate Lentz finished second in the 4×200 (1:33.84) and Chase Cameron placed third in the 400 (54.73) to lead the boys.
