As Amber Heard battles it out with her ex-husband Johnny Depp in a $50million libel lawsuit, we take a look at how those closest to her voiced fears over marrying the actor as well her focus on family life after their divorce.
The actress, 35, is being sued for libel by Johnny, 58, over a 2018 article she wrote in The Washington Post in which she discussed her experiences of domestic abuse.
While she didn’t name the actor in the article, Johnny’s lawyers say it falsely implies Amber was physically and sexually abused by him when they were married.
Amber married Johnny in a civil ceremony in 2015, three years after they first began dating.

During Johnny’s libel case against The Sun newspaper, Amber’s sister Whitney Henriquez gave evidence and claimed she had “begged” the Aquaman star not to marry Johnny.
Whitney said she liked the actor at first as he seemed “very sweet” but was concerned after Amber said they had “big fights”.
Amber’s sister claimed she became close with Johhny, “like brother and sister”, with the actor calling her “Sis”.
But Whitney also testified her sister’s relationship with the actor was “tumultuous from the start”.

She said: “I wasn’t aware of violence at the beginning but I remember Amber talking about them having big fights.”
She added she advised Amber not to go ahead with the wedding as “him putting a ring on her finger was not going to stop him hitting her”.
Johnny has denied ever being violent towards Amber.
During the trial, Whitney described Amber as one of her “best friends” but also admitted they were estranged in 2015 because of a row over the couple’s wedding pictures.

She told the court she had been living rent-free at an apartment owned by Depp but was asked to leave after she was accused of selling wedding pictures to the press.
She told the court: “I fell out with both of them.”
Henriquez denied being responsible for selling the pictures, but said her sister “believed it at the time.”
She said: “I was upset that she believed Johnny over me, and there was a long period in 2015 when I was estranged from Amber and Johnny because of this.”
Amber grew up outside Austin, with her father David owning a small construction company, while her mother Patricia worked as an internet researcher.
She rode horses, hunting and fishing and also participated in beauty pageants.
The actress was raised a Catholic but began identifying as an atheist aged 16 after her best friend died in a car crash.
A year later she dropped out of school and moved from Texas to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career.
Heard publicly came out in 2010, but has stated: “I don’t label myself one way or another—I have had successful relationships with men and now a woman. I love who I love; it’s the person that matters.”

In April last year, Amber made the surprise announcement she had welcomed a baby daughter Oonagh Paige Heard via surrogate.
The Aquaman actress announced the happy news on her Instagram account by sharing a photo of herself and her daughter.
In the caption of her post she said the little one was born on April 8.
She wrote: “Four years ago, I decided I wanted to have a child. I wanted to do it on my own terms.
“My daughter was born on April 8, 2021. Her name is Oonagh Paige Heard.

“She’s the beginning of the rest of my life.”
The name Oonagh is Scottish and means pure and holy.
Her middle name is for Amber’s late mother Paige, who died in 2020.
Amber was “heartbroken and devastated beyond belief” when her mother passed away aged 63.
She called her mother “the most beautiful woman I had ever known” in an Instagram post, adding: “It’s hard to imagine and even more difficult to say, but I feel truly lucky to have been her daughter and been given the gift of having the light she shone on everyone, fall on me for nearly 34 years.”
At the time, Heard thanked her family and friends for helping her and her sister, Whitney, during the “unbelievably painful time.”
