Police are advising motorists to avoid the top of Hadham Road in Bishop’s Stortford following a crash on the roundabout at the entrance to the Stortford Fields estate.
An air ambulance has been sent to the scene of the collision, which happened at the junction of the A1250 and Newland Avenue at about 1pm on Wednesday (January 11).
Two vehicles were involved: a grey Volkswagen T-ROC and a blue VW Polo.
The stretch of Hadham Road between the rugby club entrance at Silver Leys and the A120 bypass roundabout has been shut by police to enable paramedics to treat any injured drivers and passengers. Hadham Road is already closed at its junction with Cricketfield Lane because of work on installing a new gas main.
A Herts Fire and Rescue Service crew from the nearby Bishop’s Stortford fire station in Patmore Close was reported to be in attendance, along with an air ambulance and East of England Ambulance Service paramedics, despite the national strike by ambulance workers.
A spokeswoman for Hertfordshire Constabulary said at 2pm: “Police were called at just after 1pm today to report a road traffic collision involving two vehicles.
“Officers are currently at the scene along with the ambulance service. Air ambulance are also currently in attendance.
“Local road closures have been put in place to allow emergency services to work at the scene. We kindly advise motorists to please seek an alternative route.”
