Karns running back DeSean Bishop announced Wednesday that he has committed to Tennessee and will play football for the Vols.
“It feels great, a dream come true,” Bishop said. “People don’t get this opportunity … I’m getting a chance to play in front of the best fans in the world.”
Tennessee hasn’t included him among its signees announced for the Class of 2023 vbecause he is either not on an athletic scholarship or hasn’t officially been admitted to the university yet. It is also possible that Bishop receives money for his name, image and likeness to offset expenses usually paid by a scholarship. Tennessee can acknowledge his roster status once he is admitted and enrolled. Bishop did not want to discuss details when asked Wednesday.
Bishop, the No. 37 player in Tennessee and the No. 78 running back in the country, according to 247Sports Composite, decommitted from Coastal Carolina on Dec. 6 after he committed to the Chanticleers on July 14.

He said his decommitment was primarily due to Liberty hiring Coastal Carolina coach Jamey Chadwell.
“I look at it as it was God’s plan and God directed me, put these options in front of me and this is where he led me to,” Bishop said.
This season, Bishop rushed for 2,413 yards and 30 touchdowns in 11 games and won the Tennessee Titans Mr. Football for Class 5A for the second year in a row. He won the award in 2021 after rushing for 3,179 yards and 34 touchdowns. For his career, Bishop has over 8,000 rushing yards.
“He’s very talented, and what he’s been able to do at Karns has been unlike anyone else up until this point,” said Karns coach Brad Taylor. “He’s one the most complete packages at running back that I’ve seen locally at the high school level. (He) has power and strength and has speed that (for) explosion plays and also really good hands to catch it out of the backfield.”
Taylor said that expects Bishop to be a “really good running back” at Tennesse that will fit into their system. Bishops says he has a variety of skills to offer.
“I’ll be a very diverse player, line me up in the backfield, throw me out into the slot to throw me passes,” Bishop said. “I’m going to try and be the hardest worker on the field, not trying to let nobody outwork me.”
