Stort Valley Pride is kicking off at South Mill Arts this month in what organisers hope will be the precursor to larger events in the future.
In collaboration with Bishop’s Wellbeing, the South Road arts centre has invited colourful drag queen Crayola to perform in the Maltings bar.
Fresh from the London club scene and on her first visit to the town, Crayola promises an evening of wit, glamour, songs and audience participation.
Guests will include the mayors of Bishop’s Stortford and Sawbridgeworth, Cllrs Keith Warnell and Greg Rattey, and Steve Connors, chairman of the Bishop’s Stortford Museum and Arts Charitable Incorporated Organisation, the trust which runs South Mill Arts. Cllr Rattey is a veteran campaigner for LGBTQI+ rights.
The evening will also feature information stalls and Pride decorations, courtesy of Bishop’s Wellbeing, and will finish with karaoke fun.
Crayola’s Summer Pride, from 7pm to 11pm on Friday August 27, will be followed by a day of inclusive entertainment, information, fun and advice on Saturday August 28 from 10am to 4pm. Admission is free but donations are welcome. All funds will go to the local LGBTQI+ community.
