Kernersville, N.C. — Bishop McGuinness could have clinched the Northwest 1A Conference girls soccer regular season championship with Monday evening’s result.
The Lady Villains protected their home turf and downed South Stokes, 4-3, at George L. Repass Memorial Field. Neither Bishop McGuinness nor South Stokes was included in the midseason HighSchoolOT Top 25 West girls soccer poll, but were atop the conference standings.
Bishop McGuinness holds a perfect 7-0 record within league play, which includes two victories against South Stokes (4-2 NW1A) by 3-1 and now 4-3 final scores. The Lady Villains have six regular season games left on their slate, including a third showdown with South Stokes and that will be on the road (Apr. 28 with 5 PM start time).

The Lady Villains doubled their lead in the 31st minute as senior Emily Silva, who is back from a torn ACL, retrieved a bouncing ball and outran a few defenders en route to beating South Stokes junior keeper Ella Carroll with a right-footed shot.
From there, South Stokes flipped a switch and ended up leading 3-2 at halftime. Jenna Shotton (junior) netted a first-half hat trick with all three goals in approximately two minutes. 25-yard blast, juking Bishop’s junior goalkeeper Emily Agejew with a left-footed shot, and scoring on the end of a through ball were all included in that stretch.
Bishop McGuinness tied things up 3-all in the 49th minute when sophomore Eliza Ofsanko buried a penalty kick. The Lady Villains would notch another goal prior to the mask break in the 57th minute by sophomore Anna Krawczyk staying onside to bounce a shot off the far-post and into the back of the net. Bishop led 4-3 with roughly 23 minutes left to play in Kernersville.
South Stokes had its share of chances to equalize in the final segment of regulation, but Bishop McGuinness held strong and avoided giving up a second-half tally to preserve the important home victory.
