The Tees Herts & Essex Border League is hoping its 2021 season can commence on Saturday May 1 after the ECB published its updated roadmap for the return of grassroots cricket.
That is also the scheduled date for the beginning of the Saracens Hertfordshire League’s Readers County 20/20 competition ahead of the first round of league fixtures on Saturday May 8.
Dates could change and revisions be made, but the ECB’s roadmap currently expects organised outdoor games and coaching to be allowed from Monday (March 29). Indoor activities for under-18s and adults are pencilled in to return from no earlier than April 12 and May 17 respectively.
Clubs can welcome socially-distanced spectators from no earlier than April 12. As it stands, outdoor hospitality can also be offered from that date while indoor hospitality can be provided from no earlier than May 17. In both cases, social distancing and group limits must be observed.
“We know that our communities, players and volunteers will have missed the social, physical and health benefits of participating in our great game and we believe we have an important role to play in supporting the nation’s recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic,” said an ECB spokesperson.
